Flirt Skirt..

I joined  Craftsy several years ago,, its an online learning center, basically.. with hundreds of classes to choose from,, and kits for making lots of thing.. One of those things was a kit for a skirt..I don't usually get kits,, I always think they charge too much for everything,, but  I loved the look,, and the idea,,  so I went for it,,

This is the result,,, this a chambrey type material,, very lightweight, denim,,  its a very simple pattern,, only one piece,, the front is made off the back,, the front it simple narrow A-line,, the back it basically the same,, but it has a curve  in the center back back for walking ease, hence the name Flirt Skirt..

So.. I liked it so much, I made one out of Ponte knit... I may make some more... This is a very easy, comfortable skirt...

This is a side view,, it shows some of the CB hanging...

My 1st bias skirt..

I have seen bias skirts pictured before, and always wondered about making one,, but  was always too afraid to try,,, till Craftsy started a class by Sandra Betzina,, Sewing on the Bias,, now I am hooked,, it was WAY easier than I thought,,

Using Vogue 1333, the pattern for the class..

I made it out of some old,, old,, material,, this is stuff I have had I thing for about 20 yrs,, I got it from Wal-Mart.. it is strips of material and lace sewed together to make material,, it turned out to be the perfect fit for a bias skirt..

I did line it with batiste, since it was very thin,,elastic in the waist,, I sewed right side of skirt to wrong side of lining,, turned it in and sewed the casing for the elastic,, narrow 5/8 hem on the skirt, and serger finished, the lining,,I will be making more...

Wow.. too long,,,

I have been sewing,, I just haven't been posting,, I have learned one good thing about posting though,, it gives me a time frame of when I made something,,, sometimes I forget when I made something,, so I come on here to look. and think wow,, I have had that for THAT long,,, time to get rid of, or do something with it,,

Well, as you can see from the date on the pic, it is 3 yrs old.. already,, oh well..   The top is Burda 7595, made with sweater knit,, this is one of my favorite types of material now...

Please excuse the mess on the bed,, but I think I was having her try on a bunch of things to post on here,,, um yeh...

A pic of the hem,, or selvage edge.. this was really cut material.. stretch knit,, I just measured, cut and sewed...

Simplicity 4954

Wow, been a while,  need to get better at posting...

Simplicity 4954,, view B,, modified...IMO, this jacket is a Chanel style,, and I want to eventually make a Chanel style jacket,,, so I started working with this pattern first... I have learned it is easier for me to adjust princess seams if they come from the shoulder instead of the armhole,,,

Fabric is linen,, unfortunately stretch linen,, I HATE stretch linen,, well for clothing is it Ok, depending on what you are using it for,, for  a jacket it  would be great to have the extra "give", but I wanted to line it,, and if you don't have lining that stretches,, that is defeating the whole purpose of the "give" of the main fabric,, so, you either have to find a lining that stretches as well, or treat the linen as a woven,, fortunately my lining had some stretch as well..

I had to do I think a 3 in fba,,

This is one of the most comfortable jackets I have made,, fully lined with voile,,  and a bagged lining,, I used to be really scared to bag a lining,, mainly because I just didn't understand the instructions,, then I found a great tutorial on Threads.com,, and now I will line all my jacket...well for the most part anyway.. haha...

Embroidery things..

I have tons of sewing and embroidery designs and projects... so every now and then, I try one to see what it looks like and how easy it is to do...

I got this patterns off Sewforum.com,, in their tutorials section,, called Criss Cross burp pad.. it was very simple,, I think the hardest part was the embroidery,, this wasn't made for anyone in particular, so I just thought up a name,, Riley was it...

I used material that has been in my stash for quite a while,, actually its flannel, I don't use flannel that much,, especially this one,, so is got used..

I think it turned out pretty good...

Back again...I hope!..

Wow,, over a year has gone by, it wouldn't be so bad,, but it went by so fast...

I have still been sewing, will have to post some pix soon,, for both Holly and I... (I hope that is correct grammar, hehe..)

Ok enough chit chat.. you want pictures.. I haven't smocked in like 10 yrs, well a lady I work with had a baby,, and I couldn't think of anything to get her,, I know, I should ask,, well when I remembered to, I found out she supposedly had everything she needed.. So, me being me,, I thought, what is thing I can do that no one else that got her something does.. Sew, and then I thought it has been a long time since I made a little girls dress,, so thats what I made....

The material is a gray quilting cotton with white dots,,

The hem has little flowers on it as well.

It has been so long since I made a little dress,, I cut out the lining,, but forgot to put it on at the right time,, I had the center back turned under and sewn in the back skirt when, and was getting ready to do the neck when I realized I forgot the lining, so I had to hand stitch it to the back... Oh well, it gave me some good practice doing hand stitching which I will use soon on a jacket...

I had originally pleated the skirt with the top,, but a 45 in wide front,, and back,, was going to make WAY to big of a skirt,, so I guessed how much to cut off for a seam for the smocking band,, 1 in... Then I had a crazy idea,, instead of just sewing the skirt onto the band,, why not make the bottom piece a ruffle...

Oh me and my ideas,, good grief, as if smocking isn't tedious enough... Now I have to hem this thing,,,and inch at a time.. same with with sewing it....

But it actually went fast,, and easier than I thought...

It worked... rather well I might add.

Then I serged the skirt front, and top stitched it to on...
